New York: Director Mira Nair is no stranger to awards. The last one she got was the India Abroad Person of the Year Award for 2007, which she was given at a ceremony in New York.
Nair received critical kudos for her last feature, The Namesake, which starred Kal Penn and Tabu.
Her next film, however, will not have a strong Indian connection. It is the biopic about a pioneering American aviator. CNN-IBN’s Anirudh Bhattacharyya finds out more about the film from Nair.
Anirudh Bhattacharyya: What attracted you to do the story of Amelia Earhart?
Mira Nair: My next film is Amelia, which is an amazing portrait of an incredibly courageous woman - Amelia Earhart - who flew across the world in a little plane in 1937, and she just refused to believe that anything could stop her.It is going to be played by Hillary Swank, who's an extraordinary actress and a bunch of great actors. I think I have a great affinity to such a woman like Amelia, so I'm pleased to make it.
Anirudh Bhattacharyya: Have you started filming it? When do you expect to complete?
Mira Nair: We are shooting in two weeks. We are shooting pretty much around the world like Canada, Northern Canada, South Africa and Burma. It's a vast epic in the manner of Out of Africa. The film will be finished in January and then the in the theatres, probably a year from now.
