No tea? Well, no divorce either!

TEA-TIME TIMEPASS? Court termed the grounds for seeking divorce as frivolous.
New Delhi: Delivering its verdict on a rather bizarre case, the Delhi High Court on Monday turned down a man's plea for divorce on the ground that his wife had denied serving tea to his family!
Terming the case and the grounds for filing it as 'frivolous', the court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Narender Singh, a defence personnel posted in Jammu and Kashmir.
Noting that not serving tea did not fall under the category of ‘cruelty’, Justice S Murlidhar directed
Narender to pay the said amount to his wife Rekha within four weeks.
"Singh has miserably failed to establish in the case that his wife treated him cruelly and this ground does not come under the definition of cruelty," Justice Murlidhar observed, adding, "It is also frivolous considering that the parties lived together for as little as 11 days and that all this is supposed to have happened very soon after the marriage.”
Narender married to Rekha in 1980 and stayed with her only for 11 days before leaving for Jammu and Kashmir to resume his duty.
After few months, he filed a case seeking divorce on the ground Rekha had insulted him as she had created furore in his house by denying to serve tea to his maternal aunt and some family
friends in his absence at home.
The Court quashed the pleas noting, “most of the time, Singh had been outside Delhi. His entire case of cruelty is found upon heresay evidence of the family members and there is no ground to interfere with the judgement of the trial court."
