MIRACLE MEDICINE: Asthmatic patients wait for their turn to get fish medicine in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad: Millions of people head towards Hyderabad during this time of the year and a common bond binds them all – faith in a unique form of treatment to cure asthma.
So, once again the annual jostling has begun for the miracle cure called the fish medicine.
On the auspicious day of Mriga-sira Karti, the Goud family, which has been practicing this form of healing for over 150 years, holds the mega event of treating thousands of patients suffering from asthma.
“This cure was given to my great grandfather by a sage. There are more than five lakh people who come to us every year. If more people come we are prepared to tend to each of them,” practitioner of fish medicine, Bhatini Harinath Goud said.
The Goud family explained that a mysterious yellow powder called fish medicine is placed in the mouth of a murrel fish, which is then swallowed by the patient.
The fish is said to then travel down the throat passage, negotiate phlegm congestion before providing, as the Gouds claim, 100 per cent relief from respiratory problems.
“After I took the medicine, I haven't had any asthma attacks,” a patient said while another one said that he had “full faith in the medicine” and believes it will cure him.
So what may appear violent and revolting to some, clearly has the sanction of many believe in this miracle medicine.
