THERE IS HOPE: The benefits of ozone therapy are yet to be scientifically validated in India.
Mumbai: Ozone is what protects people from harmful ultra violet rays of the sun. However, if it cures 200 diseases, the question is why are people not opting for it.
Sixty-eight-year old BG Purav, a research scientist was a couple of years ago immobilized by colon cancer and the side effects of radiation. However, with ozone therapy, today he is back on his feet.
“I had tremendous pain, my surgeon said there's no remedy whatsoever,” says cancer survivor, BG Purav.
However, he later tried a new treatment called ozone therapy. “You can say I'm now 95 per cent normal,” says Purav.
Ozone therapy is administered by converting oxygen into ozone using a machine called ozonator. “It stimulates the anti-oxidant enzyme and stimulates immunity,” says Ozone Therapist, Dr Parul Sahiba.
It can be given through steam baths, injections as well as through the ears. Ozone therapists say it's great supportive therapy for well over two hundred diseases including, HIV Aids, arthritis and lifestyle diseases like diabetes.
Even for healthy individuals, it could be a great way to rejuvenate oneself. An average session can cost anything between Rs hundred and fifty to Rs fifteen hundred. For chronic conditions, a cycle of ten to twenty sessions are recommended every six-months.
Though clinical trials have been conducted in some European countries, fact remains that the benefits of this therapy are yet to be scientifically validated in India.
“Clinical trials need to be done, which is why it's not being accepted with open arms,” says Honorary Secretary, Indian Medical Association, Maharashtra, Dr Suhas Pingle.
Meanwhile, many people are getting on with their lives after being treated by the ozone therapy.
