Safai: The newfound camaraderie between old foes Samajwadi Party and the Congress is seen as political opportunism by many people.

However, Mulyam Singh Yadav's native village Safai and his voters are far more forgiving.

Quite like leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh, their Party workers believe that yesterday's enemy, the Congress Party is acceptable as today's new friend.

“This alliance will be beneficial. Together we can beat the BSP,” says a party worker.

Even in the other parts of Etawah, which is considered as an SP stronghold, hardly any one is questioning the new political alliance.

“Politics is like a moving train, which has new passengers coming in and going out all the time,” says Pradhan, Safai Village, Dharam Singh Yadav.

The young leaders of the Samajwadi party also believe that supporting the contentious nuclear deal is the need of the hour.

“The nuclear deal will work in the country's favour and we should support it,” says MP (SP), Mainpuri, Dharmendra Singh Yadav.

The local congress workers however are still trying to come to terms with the new alignment.

“We've been fighting with the SP for the last 27-years but we'll go with what the party’s top brass decides, even though it will be tough initially,” says Member of Pradesh Congress Committee, Ajay Kumar Yadav.

The people of Safai cannot forget that Mulayam Singh Yadav didn't just give Safai a facelift but he gave them an identity and today when the veteran leader is trying every trick in the book to strengthen his battle plan against the BSP, Safai is behind him a hundred per cent.
