Kanpur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has portrayed its prime ministerial hopeful LK Advani as Hindu deity Lord Ram in a hoarding put up in front of its office in Kanpur's Naveen Market area.

Put up days before Advani kickstarts the party's campaign for the Lok Sabha elections in Kanpur on Friday, the hoarding shows Advani aiming an arrow at a monstrous bird depicting the Congress party.

One wing of the bird has the photograph of Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the other has Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The hoarding states in Hindi, "Mehangai Ke Khooni Panje Ke Vadh Hetu Mananiya Atal Ji Ka Sandesh - Shri Advani ji Ke Haathon Saupen Bharat Desh. (To slay the murderous claws of price-rise, Atal Bihari Vajpayee's message - hand over the country's reins to Advani)".

"The party feels that LK Advani is the only leader in the country who can curb price-rise and end the misrule of the Congress party. He can also offer a clean political administration as Lord Ram did. This is why we have projected him as Ram," the party's Kanpur North chief, Suresh Gupta, said.

According to Congress district president Mahesh Dixit, the Advani poster was "proof of frustration simmering in the BJP". "We will give a political reply to the BJP at an opportune time," he said.
