New Delhi: The twists and turns in the horrific Nithari serial killings case just keep coming.
A two-member committee, probing the Nithari case had recommended strong action against Noida SSP RKS Rathore and the circle officer of Noida, Dinesh Yadav.
The fact-finding committee headed by Home Secretary Arun Singh had submitted a detailed report to the UP government, blaming both officials for delays in registering FIRs of missing people.
CNN-IBN's Special Investigation Team has a copy of the report, which says: "Had Rathore acted on time, at least seven lives may have been saved."
However, the sad part of the story is that in spite of the damming report, RKS Rathore and Dinesh Yadav enjoy plum police postings. The panel's report clearly points out that 26-year-old Payal went missing on May 7, 2006 - 10 days after RKS Rathore took over as SSP Noida.
Her father Nandlal had even named the Nithari accused Moninder Singh Pandher and Surendra Koli, but the police took no action.
The report criticises the police for registering the FIR against Moninder Singh and Surendra only five months after Payal's disappearance, and that too, only after a court order.
The committee also re-affirms strict action against Rathore's predecessor, Piyush Mordia, for dereliction of duty.
The panel had earlier filed an interim report that had led to Mordia's suspension. SP Noida City, Saumitra Yadav and circle officer Sewak Ram Yadav were also suspended at the time.
And many others were dismissed from service including Station House Officer R N Singh Yadav and four sub-inspectors, in-charge of the Nithari Police Chowki - Deepak Chaturvedi, Rajeev Baliyan, K P Singh and Simranjeet Kaur.
In spite of this damning report, senior police officers continue to enjoy plum police postings and the parents of the Nithari victims are left wondering as to what more it would take for the state government to move against these officers.
