Have read some of the commments, and the article itself. First the commentors' academic background would be of help. Secondly for a westerner it would be dificult to say anything on a subject of Indian Origin, for they are hardly exposed to them. Thirdly westerner have to learn the Indian History, to understand the evolution of Indian Science. Lastly, I also may be not be the right person to give opinion on others.

The shape of our galaxy (oval) is mentioned in Indian astrology long before .It says the galaxy is Bramhandam andam means egg which is oval shape.......So the shape of entire galaxy is known to Indian astronemers way before telescope was found.............So why to doubt their knowledge..

it is plain stupid. pluto is way too small and cannot be viewed unless you have a very powerful telescope. aryabhatta could not have seen/imagined this anyway. stop comparing astrology and astronomy. it is like comparing butchering with surgery.

Indian science is not limited only to astrology. And science (astronomy) and religion are intertwined in Hinduism. In modern context, first things that come to my mind are stemcell research, robotics (ethics or lack of)etc. IMO, it was Christianity which was at loggerheads with science at one point of time and wanted to separate it.

Only if modern day Astrologers had consulted Aryabhatta work and believed on that. Indians were once way ahead in science apart from other fields, it's just that it is not reconnized because of it's currently not being a Super Power, but watch out world, history's gonna repeat itself and India's going to be a Superpower very soon.

History gonna repeat itself?? When was India a superpower?? Funny!! Maybe a meant the golden period in Indian History (according to ur PM) - the Brits rule to repeat again !!

your comments are superfluous at best.its time people like you woke up.your breed which is fundamentally ashamed of being indian cut a real sorry figure. i will advise you to spend more time on net and go through information regarding indology at large.i assure you ,if you approach the recent informations based on application of science, with an open mind you will take your ancestors more seriously.also it is very imperative that you do so.because a lack of pride or deriving a sense of false pride by deriding what you have inherited is not foolhardy but dangerous.for a starter --tell me wheather you have heard of the river saraswati and with satellite imagery the proof of its existence? and what it means in context of history as we have been taught till now.truth seeker

CAN ANY ONE DECODE THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT?
"Indian astrology is mathematically concerned with the nine planets, two of which are Rahu and Ketu that are nothing but derivatives from the diameter of the Earth, which is a circle having a value Pi (22/7) imbedded in the equator of earth,"
( Posted: Friday , August 25, 2006 at 22:24 )
I donot know astrology, but there is a nice explanantion of PI (22/7) and it's relation with circle in the heritage section of the science museum at pragati maidan, n'delhi. There is a practical demo of how it works. briefly...if a circle is divided in 22 equal parts radially then the dia. of the circle (a string is taken as a measuring tool) is the same as the 7th part of the 22 divisions in the perimeter( when the same string is run along the perimeter , it covers 7 of 22 divisions). I found it very interesting and had never seen Pi in it's physical existence.

So I got company. Totally dumbstuck... :-)

This means that Rahu and Ketu are imaginary objects. According to Hindu astronomy, Rahu and Ketu denote the points of intersection of the paths of the Sun and the Moon as they move in the celestial sphere.
