Mumbai: The Mumbai police on Thursday sent a notice to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray prohibiting him from giving speeches till September 30.

The notice sent to Thackeray has directed him to abstain from making speeches till the end of this month.

The notice was sent following the recent Marathi signboards issue taken up by Thackeray and his party members.

Thackeray had warned all shop owners in the city to put up signboards in Marathi as per the directive of the BMC or face dire consequences.

The Bombay High Court had however directed Thackeray not to take law into his own hands and not resort to violence.

The police ton Thursday sent the notice as a preventive measure and directed Thackeray not to make any speech till September 30.

Earlier this year, Thackeray had been prohibited from making speeches after he began a tirade against north Indians in the city
