New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday appeared to have finalised the formula for the leadership change in Karnataka. According to sources, while the party has decided to make former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa's aide Jagadish Shettar the CM, it is likely to send Sadanand Gowda to the Rajya Sabha.
Following a meeting of the BJP, sources further said that KS Eshwarappa is slated to be made the deputy chief minister of Karnataka.
They also said that Chief Minister Sadanand Gowda is likely to be "accommodated with dignity" in the form of a Rajya Sabha membership.
This comes hours after Gowda said that he was ready to accept any decision of the party high command. Sources say that the BJP high command has decided to replace Sadananda Gowda with BS Yeddyurappa loyalist Jagadish Shettar as the Karnataka Chief Minister.
"I have said whatever decision the central leadership takes, I am prepared to accept. That means if they ask me to quit the post, I am prepared. If they ask me to continue, I will continue," he told reporters after reaching New Delhi.
Gowda said he had come to Delhi to convey his feelings to the central leadership on the crisis in the state.
"... The decision should not be delayed. Immediately they should take decision as 123 talukas are under severe drought and people should not feel that political disturbance in the state is affecting the functioning of the government," he said.
"I want to impress upon my leaders that immediate decision should be taken and whatever it may be, the administration should go on smoothly," Gowda said.
Asked if he was going to resign, he said, "The decision of the party leadership has not yet arrived. Once the decision comes, then only I can speak on that. I cannot tell anything at this stage."
