New Delhi: Live updates: 11.40 am: Protesters burn electricity bills. Arvind Kejriwal calls it a 'bijli paani satyagraha' against inflated electricity and water bills. "The Congress government has created anarchy in Delhi. How will a poor man who earns Rs 9,000 pay a bill of Rs 15,000?" asks Kejriwal.
10.30 am: Asking everyone to unite against corruption, anti-corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal says, "Everyone will have to be fearless. We have to rise, unite and fight against corruption. There is no Opposition left in the country. The people are the Opposition. I am here to spread awareness."
Anti-corruption activist and India Against Corruption (IAC) member Arvind Kejriwal will on Saturday launch his campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections and his stir against the inflated power bills in the capital. He is expected to kick off his campaign against soaring electricity bills by restoring the power connection of a daily wage earner, who had approached him for help after being unable to pay his bills.
Kejriwal had promised to restore his electricity connection. Kejriwal had then slammed the Sheila Dikshit government over the ballooning bills in the capital. His campaign is expected to begin at 8.30 am.
On Friday evening, Kejriwal raised hackles of the Congress leaders when he accused party president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra of financial impropriety. Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Kejriwal alleged that construction major DLF had given an unsecured and interest-free loan worth Rs 65 crore to the companies owned by Vadra.
The entire Congress leadership, led by none other than party president Sonia Gandhi, however, came out in defence of Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi. "Robert Vadra is a businessman. His transactions are transparent and above board. There has been no misuse of either the office of the Gandhi family or any misuse by Vadra," said the UPA chairperson.
