New Delhi: In reaction to Bharatiya Jan Shakti chief Uma Bharati's move to pull out her candidates from Uttar Pradesh polls after the BJPs appeal, former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana on Saturday announced his resignation from her party as its vice president.
Khurana joined Jan Shakti a few months ago after he was expelled from the saffron party last year. With Uma Bharatis move, he faced rejection of his candidates that he had fielded primarily to oppose the BJP in the recent municipal elections here. "I am quitting Bharti's party and will work for launching a third front in Delhi," PTI quoted him as saying.Khurana added that he was holding talks with a range of non-BJP and non-Congress parties for his plans to launch a third front that he claimed would get support from a cross section of people.Uma Bharati withdrew the decision to field candidates throughout UP on Friday, which came a day after senior VHP leader Ashok Singhal made a plea to her to bury her differences with the BJP.She said it's not a huge sacrifice to pull out her party's candidates from the UP polls.Uma Bharti had been expelled from the BJP two years back for indulging in anti-party activities.(With Agency inputs)
