New Delhi: Australia not only lost the third Test against India at Perth but were also fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the match.

ICC Match Referee Mike Procter decided to impose the fine after ruling out that Ricky Ponting’s team was two overs short of its target even after taking into consideration the time allowances.

According to the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, the Australian players were fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side failed to bowl in the allotted time. The captain was fined double that amount.

So, Ponting was fined 20 per cent of his match fee while the other Aussie players were fined 10 per cent of their match fee.

On Saturday, India scripted a historic win at the WACA, considered the fastest pitch in the world, by defeating Australia by 72 runs. The win also shattered Australian ambition of achieving a world record 17th consecutive Test win.
