New Delhi: Christians across the world are observing Good Friday today. This is the day Jesus Christ is said to have been crucified by the Romans.

Good Friday is marked by prayer meetings and fasting. In many churches around the world, the sequence of events leading to the crucifixion is enacted.

But this time in the Vatican, Pope Benedict the XVI will not be leading the full procession during the Stations of the Cross.

This year there will also be a significant change in the Good Friday prayers at Roman Catholic churches. The Pope has decided to remove portions in the prayer texts, which criticise the Jews for their refusal to recognize Jesus as the messiah.

Jewish leaders have welcomed the move saying it will better the relationship between the two communities.
