AIRING CONCERN: Airlines say they will save about Rs 4,000 crore if ATF is included in declared goods.
New Delhi: Aviation minister Praful Patel is meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after he met CEOs of airline companies earlier on Wednesday.
Sources in the Civil Aviation Ministry say that he will be pitching for Aviation Turbine Fuel to be brought into the declared goods category.
If this gets implemented, it will bring sales tax to a uniform four per cent across the country.
Airlines say they will save about Rs 4,000 crore if this happens.
The benefits could then be passed on to the consumer.
There also fears that low cost airlines could shut down if the cost of jet fuel is not brought down.
