Bhubaneshwar: One person has been killed and two others injured in clashes at the project site of South Korean steel producer Posco in Govindpur village of Orissa's Jagatsinghpur district.
Anti-Posco activists and project supporters clashed late on Friday night.
The injured, all of whom are anti-Posco activists, were taken to the hospital in Cuttack.
They were allegedly attacked by project supporters who hurled bombs at them. In retaliation, 10 Posco supporters have been held hostage.
One of the injured, Subash Chandra Sahni, said, "We will oppose Posco till our death. We have been living here for generation s and we don't want to lose our land. Posco will ruin the place and leave."
Posco, which is the world's fourth largest steel maker, signed a deal with Orissa government on June 2005 to build the plant by 2016.
However, the project has been mired in controversy since its inception.
Fifteen villages around the plant site have been agitating against the project. The villagers say they would lose their homes and livelihood if the plant comes up.
