Foolish comparison.. Another trick of media to create a controversy and celebrate it.

Both Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Ambedkar were great leaders in their own way. Gandhi's main thrust was freedom from foreign rule and he used truth and non-violance as the means to achieve it. Gandhi's canvas was pan-indian and his methods were adopted by Martin Luther King(Jr) for social justice and Nelson Mandela for freedom from apartheid. On the otherhand, Dr Ambedkar main focus was upliftment of the downtrodden in India. Dr. Ambedkar gave them a sense of identity and dignity which was denied to them for centuries. Both have their place in history.

Both are great men. Its like comparing Tendulkar with Lara..perhaps Gandhi is more like Tendulkar and Ambedkar more like Lara. Gandhi had bigger following but Ambedkar brought about more real impact on larger number of people. Gandhi worked with symbols - Ambedkar was a realist. Ambedkar ensured Dalits got real power and recognition while Gandhi's support for Dalits was more symbolic. Gandhi felt Hinduism can be protected by abolishing untouchability and actually felt caste system was a good thing - Ambedkar felt Hinduism is the root cause for suffering of Dalits. Gandhi loved Panchayati Raj - Ambedkar felt such a system breeds tyranny and backwardness as villagers are typically "feudal". Both Gandhi and Ambedkar can be credited for ensuring there was no violent revolution in this country to overthrow the hegemony of the upper castes/class like in China , Vietnam , Russia , France or for that matter Nepal recently....but if real changes are not brought to the lives of the downtrodden, the terror can hit the gates of most major cities and India can be hurt by a million mutinies.

The majority mentality of the human beings is to accept and remember a leader as long as a struggle lasts and once their goal is attained, in the course of time they remember that leader only when occasion like their birthday or death anniversary comes up. This is destined for all great leaders/personalities of the world. Only very few people, without any hulla gulla, silently and truly follow their ideals in their life.

Atrocities on Dalits are not very common in a progressive state like Maharashtra. But that the Khairganji carnage took place in Maharashtra is a direct result of the failure of the Dalit leadership in Maharashtra.

There is no comparision of the two personality. Both of them stood for different purpose and had totally diffrent views. Gandhiji belived in bringing all togather and making dalit a prt of main stream, Where as Mr. Ambedkar belived in having a seprate identity of dalits away from main stream. The reseravation propogated by Mr. Ambedkar has divided the country and the population in two separate parts, fighting each other for its existance. The father of the Constitution has given a consitution, the fate of the same can be seen by all Indians. The follwer of Gandhin philosophy belives in peace not so with followers of Mr. Ambedker. Ganghiji is a world respected leader. I think it is not appropriate to compare two personalities who have worked for totally diffrent field and at a different levels and are of different stature. Mr. Ambedker is GOD for the follower of Mr. Ambedkar, where as Ghanghiji is a Political tool in the hands of Politicians. Both have contributed for the Nation and Humanity in there own way, and deserves respect in there own way. Such Comparision can only creat more confusion among the minds of people, In my opinion such issues are not for healthy discussion but for creating sensation, which a respected channel like your shoud avoid.

Well Told. It is irrelevent to compare both. I feel it is not fare from our side to have such a comparison.

There was nothing as caste system in hinudism. What people are calling caste today, was earlier known as varna. And as per holy books varna is decided as per karma. A man doesnt becomes a brahmin if he is born to brahman parents. If the son of a brahman becomes warrior then he automatically beocme kshatriya. And similarly if a man born to shudra parent, sarts reading vedas, upanishads, if he chases brahma he becomes a brahmin. This is how varna is decided. In Mahabharata when Yaksha asked Yudhistir who is a brahman, Yudhistir replied that one who follows bramha is a brahman. This caste system was created by humans and today we are paying a heavy price for it. I think the media should take the responsibility to educate our society about this truth.
