more GOPAL KULKARNI Going by the present trend in the country, neither Gandhi nor Ambedkar are heroes in the sense the question is posed by the CNNIBN. They have value for only one day in a year - 2nd Oct and 6th Dec respectively for Gandhi and Ambedkar. And that too because the politicians of the day see some electoral benefit in remembering both. Otherwise for the country as a whole ,freedom fighters and national leaders have no use whatsoever. The present generation hardly knows anything about them except for Gandhi and that too because he has some money-making value left for our Bollywood businessmen. Today`s mantra is a big SELF-INTEREST leading to an epicurean lifestyle. In this scenario, if anybody is trying to find a a hero in Gandhi-Ambedkar ,it is a shadow boxing and nothing else.

more yavsrajesh If Mahatma Gandhi,Dr,B.R.Ambedkar both were to come back to life, they would be ashamed at the way the people of India are playing politics with their names for petty political reasons.
For true Indians, Mahatma Gandhi, Shaheed Bhaghat Singh, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Mangal Pandey, Chandrashekar Azad, Lal-Bal-Pal,Rajguru-Sukhdev,Acharya Vinobha Bave, Desha Bandhu Das,Dr.Shyama Prasad Mykherjee, Veer Savarkar, the countless Martyrs of Jharianwala Bagh, Pt.Madan Mohan Malvia,Sardar Patel, Maulana Azad, Asfaq uulah Khan,Dr.JP Narayan, Rammanohar lohia,Raja Rammohan roy, Alluri Sitaramaraju,Veerapandya Kattabomman all would be equally great.
A request to Politicians is not to politicise these names for selfish reason

Rasputin It is unfortunate to see the unnecessary and unwarranted glorification of a leader. Of course, he had done a lot to the cause of downtrodden in India but that will not be a platform to keep him on the top of all. On a dispassionate scrutiny of the acts of this leader, one can find that there were lot of ups and downs in the flow which at times even prompts one think that this great leader had the role of a traitor as well.

Kalidas Sawkar As it often happens, it is odius to compare between Gandhi and Ambedkar. To rationalize the situation, Gandhi had wider perspective, a slower mechanism (of love and peace)to change societies approach, and was inclusive in substance, rather than exclusive. On the other hand, Ambedkar's thoughts even if they try to undo social evils, change dalit community's approach to life, and struggle against centuries old brahminical tyranny, they involve baser instinct of the man. This would have more appeal to any community and hence more attractive. Also, exclusive policies have no long term success, they invariably fail. Would not the continuous reservation policies alienate the non-dalits forever? I think upper castes, especially in the age of internet, would have done better job of cooling down the smouldering caste furnace. Example, look at women's emancipation. It is not yet complete but near completion, and they were no less discriminated than the dalits! These are thoughts to ponder over.

more James Don't you have anything better to do? Why are you raking up such silly issues and keep belaboring about it in public? Introspect. You are loosing the quality journalism characteristic which you once upon a time had.

srini This appears a cheap jounalism. Is this a point worth headline. Both Gandhi and Ambedkar are not alive and why do you want to compare two persons who are no more with us now. This causes maximum harm to the nation. Government should interfere and should ban such headlines and should take action.

What do we get if Gandhi is decided as hero or Ambedkar.
Again I reiterate that this is a cheap journalism. People of our country know this.
Please do not publish such rubbish and get cheap in the viewres views. please...

more Sreekanth Reddy K Both are villans of this country. Gandhi divided the country on the basis of religion and ambedkar on the basis of caste.

more v Lets make one thing clear ...who are these people calling god ..this guy who did not want India to be independent...who vehemnetly apposed the Indian freedom movement and wanted the british to rule as long as possible..he is one of the most hypocritic guys you will ever come across ..if you read the facts..and the constituion..Iam afraid to say except for the first 4[freedom of speech....] lines our constituion sucks....we need to bring a complete makeover in our constitution...whay do you think India is lagging behind ..reservations ..who brought this ...apparently the diety...Instead of instilling a sense of pride in the lower class people and asking them to uplift themseleves ...he branded them as so called dalits.the word which Gandhi wanted to uproot form the society..[I would like to mention Iam not a fan of gandhi too..if thats so you think]..this man did more harm to nation than gandhi or nehru did...and here are people who worship him...god save us...We the people of india need to come to our senses..atleast now regain our pride of Indianness..and stop doing such things and try and make our country ..the greatest country in the world..and we can only make it if we think as Indians not as ...dalits..brahmins..hindus..muslims...christians....

Saurabh Aly It is foolish to compare two of the great leaders this nation has produced. Nevertheless Gandhi ji was not confined to a mere religion or caste. His humanism lifts above all these demarkations. He chose the middle path and opted for integaration. His efforts were less on independence and more on social emancipation and reconstruction of the society. It's pity that even after all his efforts, youngesters of this nation think it intellectual enough to compare him with anyone they like. Dr. Ambedkar on the other hand taught the down-trodden to fight for their rights within the framrwork of law but outside the framework of society. My parents are Brahmins but I respect Ambedkar with the core of my heart. I think we don't need monday intellectuals in this country who feel as if India has become Manhattan whenever any new malls pop up in the capital. Instead we need people who are sensible enough to and work for the upliftment of down-trodden. Some day go to the villages of Punjab, UP and Bihar and see the murky face of bonded labour behind those smiling pictures of green revolution and India glittering.

Nikhil What a rubbish argument going on..!
- There is no question that GANDHI stands at much higher level then Dr. Ambedkar. Dr. Ambedkar is great but Gandhi is the greatest.
