PROBE ON: There has been controversy surrounding the death of Rajbir Singh who was shot dead in Gurgaon last week.
New Delhi: In a latest development in the investigations into the killing of Delhi ACP Rajbir Singh, the Gurgaon police in Haryana plan to carry out narco-analysis test on the main accused Vijay Bharadwaj.
They will be seeking permission for it from a court in Gurgaon. Rajbir Singh was shot dead last week in Gurgaon.
There has been a huge controversy surrounding his death especially since it was known that the weapon used in his murder was given to the accused by Rajbir himself.
The accused Bharadwaj has alleged that Rajbir Singh had huge interests in property in several parts of the country and that Rajbir had given him the gun to recover money from people.
Rajbir Singh was an assistant commissioner of police and an “encounter specialist”, credited with over 50 ‘kills’. Bharadwaj, his friend of many years, allegedly murdered the police officer at his Sector 14 office in Gurgaon, Haryana, late on March 24 following a row over money.
Earlier on Sunday, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Mohinder Lal told a press conference that the revolver Bharadwaj used to kill Singh belonged to Ashok Sohran, the Additional Superintendent of Police in Hissar, Haryana. According to Sohran, he lost the pistol during a “raid” last year.
"The weapon used for killing (Singh) was the service revolver of Hissar's additional superintendent of police, which he lost during a raid last year," said Lal.
ASP Ashok Shoran had lodged an FIR in this regard July 21, 2007 in Bhiwani. According to the FIR No. 103, the weapon was lost during a raid in the fields of Dadri in Hisar, he said.
The Gurgaon Police claim that Singh gave the pistol to Bharadwaj three days before he was murdered. It will now investigate how Sohran’s pistol reached Singh.
Police Commissioner Lal said Bharadwaj, who is under arrest, was unable to repay the money he had taken from Singh and others. The amount of money Singh had invested with Bharadwaj is still being investigated.
