Jaipur: Neck deep in trouble with the Gurjar reservation crisis, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has more trouble coming her way, and this time around it's the politically-strong Rajputs and Brahmins threatening violent protests across the state.

The Rajput leaders hold a letter as testimony to Raje's promise and their passport to the OBC category. Now they say it’s time the Chief Minister kept her promise or face consequences.

“We have neither forgotten how to wield swords nor have we forgotten how to fire bullets and use batons,” President of Rajput Karni Sena, Jaipur, Lokendra Singh Kalvi said.

However, it's assurances made to the Jats to keep their OBC pie protected that have got Raje in trouble.

“I had then told you that for all your support I will be the dutiful daughter-in-law and make sure that your interests remain well-guarded,” Raje had said.

Meanwhile, sociologist Rajiv Gupta said, “First it was upper castes against middle castes and lower castes, now it’s upper castes against upper castes! And this OBC promise made to them is populist politics that Rajasthan has seen in the last five years. It cannot last for long.”

With election promises behind her and power in her hands, Raje has been unfazed by protests by Brahmins demanding reservations, but they are now threatening to take to the streets from June 15.

With elections round the corner in Rajasthan, time is running out for Raje and patience for the protestors. A balancing act now looks difficult not just for Raje, but also for the BJP.
