New Delhi: The controversial issue of Tata car project in Singur resurfaced in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday leading to adjournment of the House twice in the pre-lunch sitting.

The trouble began during zero hour, when slogan shouting NDA members expressed grave concern over the health condition of Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee who is on an indefinite fast, against the transfer of farmland to Tatas.

Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee's hunger strike in Kolkata against the project has entered the ninth day on Tuesday.

As soon as the Question Hour was over, Trinamool Congress MPs, led by Dinesh Trivedi, sought to raise the issue of farmland being acquired at Singur for the Tata Motors project. They were backed by BJP and Shiv Sena members including Sushma Swaraj.

They alleged that 1,000 acres of cultivable land had been given by the West Bengal government to the Tatas while the protesting farmers were being beaten up by the police.

However, Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan said that their Zero Hour notice was under the consideration of Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, which did not satisfy the agitated NDA members.

With slogans and counter slogans being raised by both sides, the Deputy Chairman adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

The pandemonium continued when the house reassembled, noisy scenes were reenacted and the Chair asked the members to lay their Special Mentions instead of reading them.

As the opposition members did not show any signs of relenting, the House was adjourned till 1400 hours.
