Eminent criminal lawyer and former Union law minister Ram Jethmalani says the Speaker should stay on and uphold the honour of his office.

"Whenever a person is appointed Speaker of the house, he ceases to be a member of a political party. If he resigns, he is not supposed to participate in any political controversy. I have quoted chapter and verse in that letter. I personally think he should refuse to step down," Jethmalani said.
