New Delhi: At the recently concluded Tribeca Film Festival held in New York, a film called Ramchand Pakistani gained critical appeal.

The film is based on actual events that took place between India and Pakistan in 2002, scripted by Pakistani born Javed Jabbar the film stars Indian actress Nandita Das.

Based on actual events, the story is about a Pakistani Hindu boy and his father who accidentally cross the border into India from their village in Pakistan.

At a time of extreme war like tension between the two countries the father and son end up spending five years in an Indian prison.

"I heard about this remarkable episode where an eight-year-old child and his father accidentally cross the Pakistan India border at a time of very critical war like tension. They disappear from the life of the mother of the child and the wife of this husband. The story comes to a climax when they are completely out of touch with each other for over several years, then they return to the home village as part of the peace process," says Jabbar.

Nandita Das plays the role of the mother who struggles to survive without her family.

Das says, "Well the kid is really the hero of the film. There are two small kids in the film and they are just phenomenal, it's they who really carry the film forward."

Directed by Mehreen Jabbar, the film is scheduled to hit theatres in Pakistan later this year.
