New Delhi: Taking a break from the controversies surrounding the Singur plant of Tata’s, the man behind the Nano, Ratan Tata was in Delhi today.

Speaking at the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers convention he refused to be drawn into any political controversy over questions on the situation in Singur.

He did however say that his company is doing all it can to roll out the people's car in time.

Though the Tata plant in Singur may have hogged headlines for all the wrong reasons, the focus for the Tatas is still the ‘Nano’.

The 650 cc car touted as the world’s cheapest with a price tag of Rupees One lakh will roll out of the plant in promised time, said the chairman of the Tata group. The commercial launch for the world's cheapest car is slated for October.

However the issue has brought about a face-off between the agriculture industry and the manufacturing industry.

West Bengal's main Opposition party, Trinamool Congress (TMC), wants the company to return the 400 acres of the total 900 acres acquired for the project. TMC has spearheaded the campaign to retrieve the farmland with the farmers behind them.

The Tata plant suspended work this week following agitation near the site. The Tatas are now believed to be planning to shift production to an alternate site and a large number of other states have proposed a grand welcome to the industrial house.
