New Delhi: Real Madrid held their top spot in the standings in the Spanish League once again after they beat Recreativo Huelva on Sunday.

Madrid took the lead in the ninth minute when Robhino headed a pass from David Beckham for the only goal in the first half. Real doubled their lead seven minutes after the break with Nistelrooy converted a penalty for a 2-0 lead.

But Recreativo came back to level the score with goals from Jesus Vasquez in the 73rd minute, and, with just five minutes left, Uche found the back of the net.

A minute into injury time saw Roberto Carlos slot the ball past Laquait to clinch a dramatic win for the visitors.

In the other fixture on Sunday, defending champions Barcelona thrashed Atletico Madrid 6-0 to keep level with Madrid, although they are behind on head-to-head with three matches to be played by each.

In-form Argentinean striker Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Barca in the 39th minute. Gianluca Zambrotta and Samuel Eto'o coverted two more goals to give the visitors a 3-0 lead in the first half.

Ronaldinho was in the thick of action in the second half as 'The Magician' was at his best taking them 4-0 up.

Goals kept pilling up and the Atletico defence continued to fall apart as Messi claimed his second goal of the night. Spanish international Andres Iniesta added more insult to injury when he found the back of the net to complete a 6-0 demolition.

UEFA Cup winners Sevilla beat Deportivo La Coruna to remain third in the title hunt in the League. Sevilla beat Deportivo even though the first half went goaless.

Playing at home, Deportivo finally broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute, with Rodolpho Bodipo foxing Sevilla keeper Andres Palop for a 1-0 lead. Sevilla equalised with a free kick from Renato Dirnie with less than 15 minutes remaining.

Frederic Kanoute slotted home the winner, after Jesus Navas had broken through the home side's defence to ensure a 2-1 win for Sevilla.
