Kolkata: The school authorities in Kolkata have requested parents to seek counseling before pushing their children into reality shows.

In a pre-emptive measure to tackle stress levels in children, the school authorities are planning counselling sessions. This comes after the tragic episode of Shinjini Sengupta, who crumpled on the sets of a popular reality dance show.

"We have nothing against reality TV but please leave the children out of it. Let them play, study and grow up,” says Administrator and Principal, Apeejay School, Reeta Chatterjee.

Reality shows are becoming a big draw for teenagers and parents who look for their fifteen minutes of fame and sixteen-year-old Shinjini was not an exception to this trap.

However, it seems that the opinions are changing.

"I think the children should have a rollicking time at school and have so much fun with their games and hopefully academics that they chose its simplicity over the glamour that comes with reality shows,” says Principal, La Martinere School for Girls, Hilda Peacock.

“Academics is a far bigger opportunity to grow than reality shows. We are students first and our schools are where we should nurture our talent,” says Head Boy of Apeejay School, Rohit Banerjee.

School authorities now hope that parents while acknowledging their childs potential, will help their impressionable minds chose the simple joys of school life over the harsh glare of reality shows.
