Red alert at Delhi & Mumbai airports

New Delhi: Security at New Delhi and Mumbai airports, that had been tightened after the Heathrow terror plot was foiled, has been further pushed up following the US Government's advisory.
Thursday saw the security levels at both the airports rise another notch to red alert. The queues were longer but this time the passengers were not complaining.
Both the airports were already on high alert after the Mumbai train blasts and in the lead-up to Independence Day celebrations.
"They are doing it for us only. I prefer standing in queue than feeling unsafe," said a passenger.
"Yes, it's taking a lot of time but it's for our good. We'll be the ones to suffer if there's a bomb," said another passenger.
"One has to be careful. I have spoken to both the chiefs and they have issued alerts to both the airports. This is a global problem and we are being very careful," said home secretary V K Duggal.
Machine-gun mounted patrol cars are doing the rounds in the two airports, there is increased surveillance at ticket counters and visitors banned from entering the terminal.
Authorities are also insisting on 50 per cent manual checking of hand baggage in normal aircraft, and 100 per cent manual checking on specific flights.
Air India and British Airways flights from London have been delayed following the increased security at Heathrow airport.
