Patna: It is a story of hope and humanity that is being trampled upon by adoption specialists.

A rickshaw-puller and his wife have given a baby girl, abandoned in a garbage bin, a home in Patna.

The baby was spotted in a garbage bin by Shinku Devi, a rickshaw-puller's wife. She tried to give the baby to childless couples but there were no takers because it was a girl baby.

Shinku & her husband Mani Paswan decided to bring up the baby along with their two daughters and a son.

Says Shinku Devi, "We brought her home because no one wanted to adopt a baby girl."

They have named the new baby Kalavati and the neighbourhood is now celebrating her arrival.

Shinku Devi and Mani Paswan are happy to have their third daughter. The family has already started saving for Kalavati's future.

Mani Paswan says, "Kalawati is already a darling of the neighbourhood and every one is willing to contribute for her in their own way."

Ironically, while this family has given the girl another chance at life, adoption specialists say the process is illegal.

However, Shinku Devi and Mani Paswan are sure they will be able to overcome all adoption processes.
