SCRIPTING A SUCCESS STORY: We have the talent, but we need to make scripts our own, says Roshan Seth.

Mumbai: We saw him last on the big screen in filmmaker Mani Ratnam's Guru but we remember him most as Jawaharlal Nehru in Richard Attenborough's Gandhi, and actor Roshan Seth wants to keep it that way.
We caught the actor in Udaipur, on the sets of Disney Channel's first TV film The Cheetah Girls - One World shot in India. Roshan prefers to keep away from Bollywood. The reason? There are no bound scripts.
“Yash Chopra called me up and told me he wants me to be the father of the girl in Veer Zaara. When I asked for a script he asked why,” Roshan said.
And even then Bollywood beckons. “They come to me when they think arrey iskeliye toh actor chahiye. There are no characters, all stereotypes,” Roshan said.
Roshan obviously does not believe in mincing words.
“Mani Ratnam comes to the set, writes the scene in Tamil, then someone translates that in English and then that is translated in Hindi and then it was given to me. I walked out of Rang De Basanti, Mangal Pandey. People wonder why I didn’t like Black, perhaps it’s a matter of taste,” Roshan said.
All said and done, the 66-year-old actor still has hope for the Hindi film industry.
“We have the talent, but we need to make scripts our own,” he said.
