JAIPUR UNDER ATTACK: Sachin Pilot has said that the work seems to be that of a terrorist organisation.
New Delhi: The President, Vice-President and the Prime Minister tonight strongly condemned the bomb blasts in Jaipur and appealed for calm.
Condemning the attack, President Pratibha Patil appealed for peace and calm.
Terming the blasts as "despicable and dastardly acts", Vice-President Hamid Ansari expressed his deepest sympathies to the families of those killed and injured in them.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was briefed on the serial blasts that left several dead and scores injured, deplored the attack on innocent people. Singh assured all support to the Rajasthan government and assistance to the affected families, PM's Media Adviser Sanjaya Baru said in a statement.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi called the blasts a crime against humanity. Condoling the tragic loss of innocent lives in the serial blasts, Gandhi called the terror attacks a "crime against humanity". She appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony in this "grave" hour.
Sachin Pilot, Congress MP from Dausa in Rajasthan, said the blasts were a terrorist attack. "It is unfortunate that the terrorists have attacked Jaipur. It is meant to create havoc, especially at a time when the area sees a lot of congestion," he told CNN-IBN
"We condemn such attacks. At the moment we need to be calm and deal with it properly and then fight the culprits," he added.
Pilot also referred to the Ajmer blasts and said that there were some reports that Rajasthan could be made the center of terrorist attacks.
However, he added that it was impossible for the police to man the entire city.
"The timing of the blasts suggest that it was meant to create panic at the time of IPL matches. No one has claimed responsibility as yet, thought it seems the work of a terrorist organisation. We are worried at the moment but we have to stay calm," he stated.
