New Delhi: Mohammad Haneef, the Indian doctor whose work visa was restored last week by the Federal Court of Australia, is willing to return to Australia.

Dr Haneef was quoted as saying to the Australian Associated Press over phone from Saudi Arabia that "he was willing to return but only if the authorities there guaranteed safety for him and his family."

This is his first public reaction after the court verdict.

Last week, the Federal Court of Australia restored his work visa nearly five months after he was cleared off having terror links with the accused of this year's failed UK blasts.

Labour Immigration Minister Chris Evans also said Haneef was entitled to return to work after the court verdict.

Hannef said he wanted to return to Australia to continue his medical training, as he was yet to find a job in India.

"I love my family and all my family, and live for my family. There's nothing above my family, not my job, not my career," he was quoted as saying.

However, Haneef would need to get medical registration before being able to come into the country.
