New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) General Secretary Amar Singh met President Pratibha Patil on Wednesday afternoon to hand over his party's letter of support to the united Progressive Alliance Government.

He also handed over to the President a list of Lok Sabha Members of Parliament who contested under the SP symbol.

Denying that a rebellion was brewing in his party over its support to the UPA on the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Deal, Amar Singh said, "Ateeq Ahmad and Beni Prasad Verma will support us. I have reassured President that Samajwadi Party is backing the government and 272 is not a difficult number to achieve."

The SP has also issued a whip to all its 39 MPs to vote in favour of the nuclear deal.
