Sania enters singles quarters at Stanford

IS IT FOR REAL? Sania beat a much higher ranked opponent in the second round.
New Delhi: Sania Mirza is continuing with her good show at the Bank of the West Classic tennis tournament in Stanford.
On Thursday, Sania defeated sixth-seeded Tatiana Golovin of France 6-4, 6-1 in the second round match to book her place in the quarter-finals.
Sania, ranked 35, beat the 19th ranked French women in about one hour and 10 minutes.
She will now face Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in the next round. Schnyder beat Russia's Yaroslava Shvedova 7-5, 6-2 in her second round match.
In the other match, top-seed and seventh rank Anna Chakvetadze, who had beaten Sania in the semi-final of the Cincinnati Open just a few days back, won 6-4, 6-1 against Eleni Daniilidou of Greece.
Qualifier Olga Govortsova of Belarus upset fifth-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Peer is Sania’s doubles partner in the tournament.
