New Delhi: Director Sanjay Gupta is all set to make a film based on a book close to his heart.

This is the first time Gupta is moving away from his “fast-bikes”, “action oriented” genre to make a film that supposedly reveals his “sensitive side”.

The story of Vine of Desire, about two half-sisters, impressed the director so much that he instantly decided to give a vision to it. Written by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, Vine of Desire is a sequel to Sister of My Heart.

Sanjay said that Divakaruni's book had always fascinated him. "I was specially impressed by Vine of Desire. I could visualize the entire story while reading it. It was like watching a film in my mind."

Gupta is confident of doing full justice to author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni's book.

"There's this usual perception that film directors cannot do justice to stories of novel writers. The director's vision does not match up to the authors. Thus disappointing the viewer! But that has not been the case with classics. Films like Devdas and Parineeta have done pretty well for themselves. I am sure the same will be the case with Vine of Desire."

Pooja Bhatt – who could also play the lead in the film - encouraged Gupta to make Vine of Desire into a film, he says.

Sanjay Gupta revealed, "Pooja said, ‘The book makes me want to take up acting once again.’ She was so impressed with it."

"If she is game to doing my film then I have no problems casting her in it," said Gupta who is also working on Milte Hai with Meghna Gulzar.
