DAUGHTER OF THE CONDEMNED: Sarabjit asked that he be allowed to meet his daughter weeks before his execution.
New Delhi: Sarabjit Singh, the Indian on death row in Pakistan, has made an emotional appeal to the government there to let him see his daughter.
Sarabajit says he has never met his daughter Poonam.
The plea comes barely three weeks before he is slated to be hanged.
He was to be hanged on April 1, but the hanging was deferred for 30 days by President Parvez Musharraf.
Presidential spokesman Maj Gen Rashid Qureshi on Saturday denied reports in the media that Sarabjit's execution had been postponed for one more month.
India's External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee had on Friday made a fresh appeal to the Pakistan government to grant clemency to Sarabjit on humanitarian grounds.
Sarabjit's two daughters Swapandeep and Poonam, wife Sukhpreet Kaur and sister Dalbir Kaur are going to meet him on April 23.
The Indian High Commission in Lahore told PTI, "When he was informed about his family members coming to Pakistan next week, he (Sarabjit) requested the government to allow him to meet them."
Sarabjit Singh was sentenced to death in 1991 for his alleged involvement in four bomb blasts that rocked Lahore and killed 14 people. The Pakistan government claims that Sarabjit is actually one Manjit Singh, who orchestrated the blasts, which the Singh has vehemently denied.
