SISTER ACT: Sarabjit's sister, Dalbir Kaur, says she's likely to meet Nawaz Sharif on Friday.
New Delhi: There’s more hope for Sarabjit Singh, the Indian prisoner on death row in Pakistan. Sarabjit met his family after 18 years in a Lahore prison on Thursday.
The Pakistan government says it is considering India's appeal for clemency. Sarabjit's sister, Dalbir Kaur, says she's likely to meet Nawaz Sharif on Friday to discuss her brother's mercy plea.
“Our meeting was a sombre occasion. Words cannot express what Sarabjit has gone through. Today I will probably talk to Nawaz Sharif. Yesterday our conversation was interrupted. But I hope to meet him today. I also spoke to Ansar Burney. He said that Musharraf had not received out earlier appeal so he has forwarded it to him again.”
Sarabjit’s wife, daughters and sister met him for about 30 minutes in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat prison and called for his release. “We are happy and sad. I hope he and prisoners languishing in Pakistani and Indian jails will get released,” said Dalbir.
Sarabjeet is to be hanged on May 1, but sources in Indian and Pakistani governments say there is a chat that the date maybe deferred.
