Sarkozy talks democracy in speech

SARKOZY WINS ELECTIONS: France's 44.5 million voters were faced with a clear Left-Right choice.
New Delhi: French voters have elected Right wing leader, Nicolas Sarkozy, as the next President. The second and final round of polls saw a record voter turnout of over 85 per cent.
Sarkozy, the son of an immigrant, is the leader of the ruling conservative UMP party.
France's 44.5 million voters were faced with a clear Left-Right choice between Sarkozy's tough line on immigration, and Sagolene Royal's soft line on welfare.
In his Presidential victory speech, Sarkozy talked of the values of democracy.
"My thoughts go to all the French who did not vote for me. I want to say to them that outside of political combat, outside of divergent opinions, there is only one France for me. I want to tell them that I will be the president of all of the French, that I will speak for each one of them. I want to say to them tonight that this is the victory of one France over another - there is only one victory for me tonight and that is for democracy, and the values that unite us," he said.
The results came out practically as polls closed across the country and Royal stepped up almost immediately to concede defeat. She put on a brave face claiming that her party would do well in the future.
"We will continue to assemble, to unite, to talk to each other, to prepare the tomorrows of a France that will end-up choosing a real desire for a future," she said.
