New Delhi: Eight months to go for the polls and the Delhi government finally got good news from the Supreme Court.

The apex court allowed the desealing of unauthorised shops in the Capital. For a government dubbed anti-people by the shop-owners, this comes within two weeks of a notification that allowed de-sealing.

But it doesn't mean that the crisis has blown over. The rider is that the SC has made clear those benefiting from Wednesday's order will have to abide by its final orders.

This means that for people like Pooja Sahu, this relief could be at best temporary. After her boutique was sealed, Pooja had already relocated to another part of the city. She is fed up with the flip-flop.

"I have already spent so much money on relocating. Desealing is great but what are persons like me supposed to do?" she asks.

The Delhi government is unwilling to worry too much about what might happen in future. In an election year, the Congress is happy as long as it doesn’t have to face the angry voter.

Said Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit. "This has cleared ambivalence for local body. Now they will know if to proceed or not."

The tussle between the legislature and the judiciary that was expected to escalate over the de-sealing issue has now fizzled out with Wednesday's order and every premise that is de-sealed in the coming days will become a potential brownie point for the Congress government ahead of the Delhi elections.
