SC RAPS BHANSALI: Farida says Bhansali cheated her out of insurance money claimed for a fire on the sets of Black.
Mumbai: The Supreme Court on Tuesday wanted to know why criminal proceedings against Bollywood producer-director Sanjay Leela Bhansali should not be continued.
The Bombay High Court had stayed the petition by Farida Hussain Ali against Bhansali, seeking initiation of criminal proceedings against him.
Farida had said in her petition that she had given furniture worth Rs 2 crore to Bhansali while his film Black was being shot. However, during shooting, the furniture was apparently burnt down due a fire in the sets.
On October 26, 2005, Farida had complained to the police that Bhansali had contravened the LPG order and used two domestic gas cylinders for commercial purposes on the sets of his movie, Black.
She further stated that when the movie set caught fire due to a short circuit, the "illicit" LPG cylinders added to the damage.
Bhansali had filed a bail application after receiving summons from the police "to report to the police station within three days".
