New Delhi: The Supreme Court has barred the Symbiosis University in Pune from reserving seats for the OBC’s in its course.

Youth for equality had filed an application complaining against the two Universities that they were giving reservation to OBCs despite the restraint order passed by the court on March 29, 2007.

The petitioner had contended before the bench comprising Justices B N Agrawal and P P Naolekar that the two institutions were implementing the government policy of providing 27 per cent reservation to OBCs in admission to centrally-run educational institutions on advanced studies, including IITs, IIMs and postgraduate medical sciences courses, in violation of the Supreme Court order directing the government not to enforce the reservation policy from the current academic session, i.e., 2007-2008.

The court also issued notices to Delhi University and Symbiosis International University to show cause why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against the two.

The court also issued notices to University Grant Commission and All India Council for Technical education (AICTE).

The petition has been filed by Ankit Kumar and Shashank Shekhar.
