k.venkateswar Most often than not we blame media for not being constructive. However in this case media especially IBN has done a very good job in spreading the awareness in the public. They were able to project the public demand in a great way. IBN, continue to focus on such issues which affect a common man on a daily basis. Press, Public and Supreme court have proved that even a Legislation can be beaten down.

Ravindran SC keep it up. But Supreme Court might taken the issue on priority basis in Dec 2007 itself. Delayed justice to the Doctor. It is fundamental rule that the recuirment rules can not be changed to the disadvange of the existing incumbent. If Govt wants to change they can change the rules for a new comer. But not to retrospectively to the disadvantage of the existing incumbent. It is not understood how the Govt has framed the Bill with retrospective effect knowing fully well lot of landmark judgements of Apex Court in this regard. How the Law Ministry has vetted this Bill with this Retrospective clause. How Cabinet has allowed and how MPs have voted this Bill when it was utterly clear that the 'Retro' clause was aimed at one individual, it is just to satisfy the 'ego' of the Minister. Once Dr Venugopal retires the 'Retro' clause in the Act becomes infructuous. The Govt(Minister) could not wait from 30th Nov 2007 to 2nd July 2008. Inview of the Judgement the MPs who have voted should resign from their membership since they have voted knowing fully well the rules. It should be treasted as a Constituional breach. One more thing the Hon'ble Supreme Court has taken lot of time to give relief to the Doctor on the well known and fundamental issue of "Retrospective" clause inspite of their landmark judgements in this regard. The Hon'ble Court might have given interim direction for reinstatement and went on to proceed with the case for the other issues involved. It is defintely a delay, the individual has lost the opportunity to serve the public for 5 months, this is more important than getting back the back wages.

E Sudarsan It show, in INDIA un-elected bodies are doing well. However, polluted elected bodies like national parties are moulding circumstances according to their convenience. It is very shameful to UPA government after proving that their decision is wrong against Mr. AIIMs. When such incident happens, no active political leader, cabinet minister or Sonia Gandhi come into picture and accept reality. Thanks GOD, atleast you have provided highly profiled Supreme Court to INDIA, so that some people are surviving well in this world against troubles created by running government.

MPR Panicker The Supreme Court very rightly struck down the Act as it was enacted with bad intention. When Dr. venugopal was appointed in 2003 July for a five year tennure the Government should not have amended the rules to oust Dr. Venugopal.I am also surprised how th Government Lagal Pandits advised favourably for such a change.Let the Govt. not play any more politics with this case . they should allow Dr. Venugopal to complete the term and quit honourably.

more Chanakya Jr. The Supreme Court has given a massive "cardiac attack" to Dr Anbumani Ramadoss and granted Dr Venugopal a few more months to stick on to his pet AIIMS .. In the intervening period of his service, Dr Venugopal should go all out to make this wonderful medical instn on par with the world's best and erase the impression that he's a weak administrator. In this gigantic task, he can not only count upon the support of the Public but also the fellow-Doc-colleagues in the Institute; what more, help will also come spontaneously from his fraternity in the whole of India.

Dr Ramadoss by this sordid episode must have learnt a lesson or so, more notably that he cannot take law into his own hands and use the tool of the Parliament to bully a person, that too a famous medl practitioner. If by this set-back by way of the Supreme Court verdict, if he were to tender the resignation, to some extent it'd mean that he has wiped part of his sins; if not our AIADMK Parliament Members will be after his blood when the session re-opens ! The Prime Minister will be quite eager--if not in public--to receive such a letter from Anbumani ..

v.sriharsha Nothing would be embarrassing for the thick-skinned politicians who know how to survive against heavy odds. Did Lalu quit for the fodder scam and had in fact been to jail and installed his wife Rabri Devi as the chief minister of Bihar. The poor lady, who hardly stepped out of her kitchen, established herself as a better chief minister than her husband. It's not to absolve Dr Venugopal from his blemishes. He may be an outstanding cardio-surgeon but a poor administrator, a point well made by Dr Ramadoss. A look at AIIMS environs convinces one that the premier institute needs a no-nonsense administrator. Since Dr Venugopal has proved his point, he should gracefully make way to a younger person to step into his shoes. That way his prestige would increase ten-folds among the medical fraternity. Tragically, none of the Telugu Ministers from his State in the Central ministry cared to come to his aid when he was battling with Ramadoss. Was this silence from them more to do with the party and government discipline or did Dr Venugopal couldshouldered these VIPs when they sought his help in times of crisis? The SC verdict has put the AIIMS in poor light and the Central Government, more so the PM, should prevent such unsavoury situations in future. Let the institute be not hijcked by such egotist individuals leaving the patients' lives like the candle in the wind.

S.V. Kaushal The sole achievement of UPA government in almost 5 years was to dismiss a missionary, best known heart specialist in the country. Alas, S.C. has undone that too. Hope this govt. goes too.
