NO REFUGE FROM TERROR: At the ground level, there are hardly any takers for the govt theory.
Udalguri: Communal violence that began in Udalguri and Darrang districts of Assam on Friday has now spread to the Baksa district, which comes under the Bodoland Territorial Council.
The state government is feeling the heat and has accused the National Democractic Front of Bodoland of fuelling trouble.
This after four of its cadres were caught with weapons in Baksa. But at the ground level, there are hardly any takers for the theory.
"There is no NDFB presence here. We are clueless why we were attacked. We are living in fear and have sent the women and children to the relief camps,” says one resident.
More than 600 homes have been torched since Friday and many residents have been forced to move to relief camps.
The past three nights have been most harrowing for the women and children huddled in these camps.
“I feel terrified at night even with the CRPF. My house has been burnt down. I am in extreme difficulty living here with my son and daughter. There is no peace,” says another resident.
The Army has been carrying out flag marches and a curfew has been placed since Friday. But the affected, the thousands displaced, living in makeshift relief camps continue to complain about lack of security.
They are in constant fear and are reminding everyone of lessons not learnt from the violence in Udalguri two months back.
