SCARLETTE CASE: Goa govt has finally bowed to pressure from several quarters.
Goa: After more than a month to British teenager Scarlett Keeling's murder, the Goa government has finally bowed to pressure from several quarters and the case has finally been handed over to the CBI.
This was a move that Scarlette’s mother Fiona had been demanding for months. The Goa government was earlier unwilling to hand over the case to the CBI. The question is why did Chief Minister Digambar Kamat relent? Probably it was the Goa police who wanted this case off its back.
However, in London, Scarlett's mother Fiona Mackeown says she hopes that justice will finally be done.
“I wrote a letter yesterday asking the government to hand it over to CBI. We have done the investigations in the right direction but some people have some doubts. So we finally decided to transfer the case to the CBI,” says IGP, Goa, Kishan Kumar.
The handover to the central investigating agency comes two days after Finona Mckeown flew to Britain with Scarlett's body. She plans to conduct more forensic tests on her daughter's body and plans to return to Goa to pursue the case. Fiona had earlier accused the Goa police of hushing things up.
However her lawyer now hails the handing over the case to CBI as a victory for democracy.
Nonetheless, the state police are standing by its probe. ”We were sure that our investigation was perfect, but we have recommended this transfer to clear all the doubts,” says Kishan Kumar.
This recommendation of Goa Police indicates just one thing that Goa Police were fed up of bashing at them and although they have written it to the government to transfer the case to the CBI.
Some sources say that the investigation is so perfect that even CBI will not be able to dig out anything more.
