New Delhi: Eight to 10 children are injured and one student feared dead after a Delhi Public School bus overturned in Shilaj near Ahmedabad on Wednesday morning.

According to police officials, the school bus collided with a truck.

“The bus was carrying about 20 students. It was not packed to its capacity. The accident took place between the bus and a truck. The bus lost control after it collided with the truck and hit a divider. As per primary information all the injured have been rushed to a hospital,” SP, Ahmedabad, SS Trivedi said.

Soon after the accident, protests broke out in the area. A mob even tried to set the bus on fire. Police forces have been rushed to the area to avoid any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, parents of the victims are demanding that the bus driver be arrested immediately and school authorities also be held accountable for the accident.

PAST CASES

Feb 5, 2008: Two school teachers were killed and 40 students injured after a bus lost control and hit a tree in West Bengal's Hooghly district.

July 17, 2007: Eleven schoolchildren were injured in two separate bus accidents in Delhi. Six students of the Rajkiya Kanya Sarvodya Vidyalaya were injured when a jeep collided with their school van at Kondli in East Delhi. Another five children were injured in a similar mishap with a van carrying school children at Rohini in west Delhi.

July 12, 2007: A private bus in Patna ran over two children. After the incident, an outraged mob set the bus on fire.

July 9, 2007: Twenty-five children were injured and a parent was killed when a school bus overturned in Preet Vihar in East Delhi.

April 28, 2007: A student was killed and six others injured in a road accident in Varanasi.

August 1, 2006: Six schoolchildren were killed when the bus they were travelling in turned turtle and fell into a canal in Sonepat, Haryana.
