School trustee accused of harassing teacher surrenders

New Delhi: Dinesh Patel, the trustee of a school in Ahmedabad, who was accused of harassing a teacher for sex surrendered before the police on Wednesday.

Dinesh was absconding after a schoolteacher committed suicide and left a note saying that he had demanded sexual favours from her.

A case has been lodged at the Sabarmati police station against the trustee, after a 40-year old teacher consumed poison in her house in Ahmedabad on Monday after being allegedly harassed by the school trustee.

The teacher, Bhagwatiben Patel was a resident of Someshwar Society in Ranip. She was working as a teacher in Nav Chetan School.

In a suicide note found close to her body, she has accused the school trustee of asking sexual favours repeatedly over the last six months.

A day before she died she had also written to the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi narrating her plight.

She was also sacked from her job a day before she committed suicide. Sources claim that this apparently provoked her to take the extreme step.
