BIZZARE CASE: Subodh has been arrested and charged with extortion and wrongful confinement.
Dehradun: Eight-year-old Salman Siddiqi is too shocked to speak. He was rescued from his school toilet at the Indian Public School in Dehradun where he was held captive for hours. His senior, a class 10th student kidnapped him and demanded the school principal pay a ransom of rupees Rs 50 lakh.
The police say that the accused, Subodh Singh had bound and gagged Salman and locked him up in the school toilet. Subodh then got himself admitted to the school dispensary and made a ransom call to the principal.
Subodh was allegedly angry with the authorities and wanted to get back at the school officials. He made the ransom call to the principal and when asked to calm down, he even threatened to kill the boy.
"He said if we don't give him the money, he will kill the boy," recalls the principal.
The police searched for 24-hours but could not trace Salman. Luckily someone from the school found Salman in the school's toilet and rescued him.
Subodh was later arrested by the police. He has been charged with extortion and wrongful confinement.
With a crime like kidnapping literally becoming child's play, parents seem to have no guarentee of their children's safety even in the temple of education.
