New Delhi: It was a match that stood up to the hype when the Williams sisters faced-off in the semi-finals of the Bangalore Open as a sell-out Bangalore crowd enjoyed every moment.

Serena dominated the match in the first set with fast serves, powerful baseline play, and loads of skill and stamina. World no. 7 Venus pulled it back in the second set with some fantastic rallies, and the third set went into a hard-fought tie-break.

It was the younger sister that kept up the momentum – Serena won the semi-final 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 in a match that lasted two hours and 10 minutes.

"It's probably one of our closest matches. Neither one of us was playing our best tennis,” Reuters quoted Serena, as saying. "I was really upset I didn't take the opportunity on my first match point and was lucky Venus did not either," Serena said. "I was happy I took it to the tiebreak."

Venus said her sister always raised her game against her. "She always plays really tough, really challenging," she said. "She hit some serves that I really couldn't return."

Meanwhile, Patty Schnyder is through to the finals of the Bangalore Open, but it was a hard-fought win.

The fourth seed won over her opponent – China’s Yan Zi – in straight sets, but Zi made the Swiss work hard for every point.

Schnyder came up with some powerful strokes to take the first set 6-3 and the second set was no different at 6-4.

Schnyder won the important points throwing the 54th ranked Chinese out of rhythm and won the match won as Zi committed a double-fault on the match point to enter the finals.

"Except my first serves, everything worked well today," Reuters quoted Schnyder, as saying.

Patty Schnyder would face Serena Williams in the final.
