Lucknow: The recruitments made to Uttar Pradesh police force during Samajwadi Party rule are now kicking up a storm.

An inquiry instigated by Chief Minister Mayawati has opened a can of worms with Additional Director General of UP Police, Shailja Kant Mishra - who’s heading the probe – making some shocking revelations.

“I hang my head in shame. The girl recruits have alleged that they were sexually abused before their recruitment,” he said.

And this isn’t all. Mishra also hinted at the politician-police nexus in the recruitments.

Continuing its crackdown on police officials, the state government has suspended seven more IPS officers, taking the toll of suspended officers to 25.

Over 17,000 police/PAC personnel recruitments have been cancelled, and over a dozen FIRs filed against officials involved in the recruitments.

The government had also issued directives for initiating departmental proceedings against 40 other police officials involved in the recruitment.

The suspended IPS officers were ADGP V K Bhalla, IGPs A D Mishra and K K Saxena, DIGs V K Agarwal, Prabhat Kumar and Malkhan Singh Yadav and SP G K Goswami, Principal Secretary (Home) J N Chamber said in Lucknow on Sunday.

Mayawati's government also says there were several irregularities in the evaluation of the answer sheets of the aspirants.

The government has promised that fresh recruitments will be held within six months and if Mishra's findings turn out to be true, this scandal is far from over.
