CANDID TALK: Shabana says the play, Kaifi Aur Main, is more than just theatre to her.
London: On the 4th death anniversary of Kaifi Azmi, Shabana and Javed Akhtar paid their tribute to the great poet through Kaifi Aur Main - a play adapted from a book Yaad Ki Rehguzar, written by Shabana's mother.
After successful performances in India, Dubai and the US, Kaifi Aur Main finally reached London, but much to the disappointment of theatre goers, it was there only for one exclusive show.
Adding to the exclusivity was Javed Akhtar's debut stage appearance opposite wife and actor Shabana Azmi, in the play based on Shabana parents Kaifi and Shuakat Azmi.
"I am sharing the stage with a formidable actor like Shabana, so it is frightening when I am on stage. But I don't think about it as I have to survive," writer Javed Akhtar said.
After numerous performances around the world, Shabana still feels the play is more than just theatre to her.
"Kaifi Aur Main is not just a play for me, it is an emotional offering because I feel very privileged that I belong to these parents. I think it's a gift to be shared with the world," Shabana said.
It's been a long tour with just one show in London, but the actors still say they might be up for more.
