Mumbai: Actress Sharmila Tagore and artist Paresh Maity are kneeling for a cause. The duo is painting a canvas as part of Khushii India on Canvas project.
A 100 canvases painted by celebrity pairs like P Chidambaram and Anjolie Ela Menon, Renuka Chowdhary and Jaishree Burman, will be later auctioned to raise funds for an old-age home.
"It is for an old age home and I'm going towards that," quips Sharmila.
"When they said I have to work with Sharmila, my dream came true," says Maity.
The Bengali connection helps, the duo feels at home and all the inspiration lies between the two — Sharmila's movies and Maity's trademark strokes.
“In the objects in the frame, you will see a lot of her films, the light, the boat, the rain,” explains Maity.
"It’s a film called Amanush which he remembers because he was too young for my Ray films or my other Bengali films. So the boat is reminiscent of that. It is going to be called Mausam (Weather). He is very encouraging. He says, ‘Well done, excellent!’” says Sharmila.
They have managed to paint a pretty picture for the elderly, so is Sharmila tempted to paint some more?
“No, I’d rather leave it to the experts, I will stick to acting,” she says.
